For International Youth Workshop: actors of development in rural areas

PROCASUR

Regional Corporation, together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia through Its Program-Rural Opportunities, IFAD, FAO and the Ford Foundation, invite the International Workshop called Youth: actors of development in rural areas, to be held on 27, 28 and 29 October 2010 in Bogotá, Colombia.

In Latin America and the Caribbean about 120 million inhabitants are young; Of them, 30 million live in rural areas 53% are men and 47% of women between 15 and 29. Young people represent 25% of rural population and are a strategic player in the development of these territories.

Despite the growing importance of rural youth in the region, current development initiatives and public policy towards the sector, have joined weakly to the rural youth as stakeholders in the strategies and services promotion of rural development. They have been poorly integrated into the discussions to reflect on the improvement of general conditions the rural world as a place to live and develop their life projects.
