Chaskielberg The Argentine Alejandro won the Sony World Photography Award 2011 with his series "The growing" on a small island community living in the delta of the Parana River, a few miles from his native Buenos Aires.
His works were chosen among more than 105,000 submitted by photographers from 162 countries.
Chaskielberg spent nearly two years familiarizing himself with the life of the islanders.
The photos were made in the light of the moon, using a flashlight, and using a 5x4 view camera.
"These carefully targeted pictures-solid truths say about hard work, community solidarity and economic survival in a marginal-allusive splendidly," said jury chairman Francis Hodgson, during the award ceremony in London, UK. Mayor
